Hello class

August 23, 2006 by svbaker

hello everyone,

My name is Susan Victoria Baker.  Why the middle name?  Because it differentiates me from the zillion other Susans who were born in the mid-1950s, and with whom I have surfed along the Baby Boom.  When I worked at UNC Hospitals, there were five, count them, five other lab techs named “Susan’ in our little department.  I decided to go by Victoria.  This inevitably caused problems for all my friends, family, and colleagues who had known me as Susan.

I still struggle between the two names.  One (Susan )is common, uninteresting, and just lumps me with a whole group of people from my age bracket. The other is the exotic, the interesting, the name that unfortunately is constantly shortened to Vicky, or Vic.

I invite this class to call me Susan.  It IS my given name, and I guess it will suffice for purposes of this blog and JoMC 711.

My work is in epidemiology research.  I’m attempting to take this course to expose myself to new technology.  I’ve been eeking along with basic Word and Excel.  As you can tell, I have never blogged before.  Bear with me.

In addition to taking this class, working full time in RTP, and enjoying my single life, I’ve been focused on a variety of other projects lately.  More on that to follow in future blogs, I hope.

thanks for reading.  susan
